Translation:

Whenever they want to hand over a prisoner to the officer of wrath, they say, “God, help us!” But it turned out that Ramadan’s fear was unfounded. The morning officer had been replaced, and a new, much more pompous and heavy-handed officer had arrived, who was proud of his position in the government of Rasht. Upon arriving in Anzali, in order to make sure the afternoon officer had everything in order, the first thing he did was to release us. We thanked God. I was about to leave the prison when I saw a young man, whose accent, appearance, and demeanor clearly indicated he was from the region of Khoy or Salmas. The morning attendants were bringing him to the prison, and the young man, speaking in a specific Persian accent that I later found out was from Istanbul, was making very dramatic complaints about “the violation of his rights” and asking people for “sympathy,” hoping they would listen to him.

Ramadan looked at him and, utterly astonished, said, “In the name of God, here’s another one. By God, today you’re sending all the crazy people here, I thank you for what you’ve sent, and I thank you for what you haven’t!” I wanted to tell him that this man was also Iranian and speaking Persian, but I was afraid he might think I was mocking him, so I kept quiet. We went about preparing for a carriage to take us to Rasht, and just a few minutes later, when we were about to leave in the carriage with the Sheikh and the foreign gentleman, we saw Ramadan running toward us. He handed me a small packet of nuts and quietly whispered in my ear, “Sorry for speaking too much, but by God, I think their madness has affected you too, or else how could you dare to travel with them?” I replied, “Ramadan, we’re not as scared as you!” He said, “May God be with you. Whenever you feel frustrated from their nonsense, just eat from this and think of your servant.”

The carriage cracked its whip, and we set off, having a great time, especially when we saw a new ticket officer heading to Anzali. We laughed so much that we nearly burst our sides.
