Bald Eagle (scientific name: Haliaeetus leucocephalus) is a type of bird of prey from the group of sea eagles that is native to North America.  The range of life of this bird of prey includes Alaska, Canada, the entire mainland of the United States of America and northern Mexico.  These eagles live near large bodies of water that have both good food reserves and old trees for nesting.

At the end of the 20th century, this bird was endangered in the United States, while their numbers increased in Alaska and Canada.  In the following years, the population of bald eagles in the United States increased, and on July 12, 1995, it was removed from the endangered species list.

The name "Gar" was not given to it because of the fact that this animal is "Gar", but the word "bald" used to mean "white head".  Bald eagles reach maturity at four to five years of age and have brown feathers with a white head and tail.  Males and females are similar in color and plumage, but, like most other birds of prey, females are larger than males.  Their tips are large and yellow, and females have a more curved tip.

The bald eagle is an opportunistic hunter, which means that although its main food is fish, it also uses other available food sources depending on the situation.  The white-tailed sea eagle is the closest relative of the bald eagle, which lives in Eurasia and plays a similar ecological role in this region.

Newly hatched chicks are light gray in color and turn dark brown at twelve weeks of age.  At this time they leave the nest.  Around three or four years old, their color is brown and they have streaks of white feathers under their wings and on their heads.  Also, white feathers can be seen on their chest and tail, and their tip is black.  At this age, they are very similar to golden eagles and easily mistaken for humans.  These eagles become sexually mature at the age of 4-5 years, and at this age, their characteristic white feathers appear on the head and tail, and their eye color changes from dark brown to yellow.

The white-headed eagle has set several records in the world of birds.  So far, the heaviest game and generally the cargo that a bird was able to take off the ground with was a deer weighing 6 kilos and 800 grams, which was lifted by a bald eagle.  Also, the largest bird-making tree nest was also built by a pair of bald eagles in Florida, USA.  Their nest is 6.1 meters deep, 2.9 meters wide and has an astonishing weight of exactly 2,722 kilograms (nearly 3 tons).  The name was Dedet.  This insecticide was harmful to birds as well as to insects.  Since this type of insecticide was banned, the number of birds has also increased.
