The Honest Woodcutter

Once in a quiet village lived a honest woodcutter who worked hard for his living. One day, while chopping wood near a river, his axe slipped from his grip and fell into the deep water. The woodcutter was heartbroken, as the axe was his only means of earning a livelihood.

As he wept by the riverbank, a water spirit appeared and asked, "Why are you crying?" The woodcutter explained his dilemma, and the spirit decided to help him. She dove into the water and returned with a golden axe.

"This is not mine!" the woodcutter said firmly. The spirit then retrieved a silver axe, but again, he refused, saying, "That's not mine!" Finally, the spirit brought up his old, rusty axe. The woodcutter joyfully exclaimed, “Yes, that is mine!”

The water spirit was so impressed by his honesty that she rewarded him not only with his axe but also the golden and silver axes as a reward for his integrity. The woodcutter returned to the village, now prosperous, and he always remembered the lesson of honesty.

Honesty: The story shows well that honesty and ethics are of great importance.  Despite the temptation that the golden vision gives him, Sadiq sticks to his principles and values.

 Work and Effort: The story also emphasizes the importance of hard work and continuous effort.  Sadiq shows that success can be achieved with hard work and honesty.

 Respect and fame: Sincere honesty makes him gain high status and respect among people.  This message reminds us that good manners will eventually lead to credibility and respect in society.
