Once upon a time in a faraway kingdom, a wise and thoughtful king ruled over his people. He was known for his fairness and desire to improve the lives of his subjects. However, he became increasingly concerned about the lack of initiative and responsibility among his people. One day, he decided to set a test to see how many of his subjects were willing to take action to overcome obstacles.

The king ordered a massive boulder to be placed in the middle of the most traveled road leading to the capital. Satisfied with his plan, he then disguised himself in common clothing and hid behind a tree, eager to observe how his people would react to the challenge.

As the sun rose the next day, traders, nobles, and commoners alike began to make their way down the road. One by one, the wealthy merchants passed by the boulder. Instead of attempting to move it, they simply navigated around it, muttering complaints about the road's poor condition and blaming the king for not maintaining it. The nobles, dressed in their finery, followed suit, laughing amongst themselves as they skirted the obstacle, clearly unconcerned about doing any labor.

The king watched silently, disappointed by the lack of effort shown by those who enjoyed the privileges of wealth and power. For a moment, he thought that his citizens had grown complacent and entitled. He wondered if anyone had the courage to take action and face the challenge head-on.

As the day wore on, a weary farmer appeared on the horizon. His back bent under the weight of a large basket filled with fresh vegetables. The farmer stopped in his tracks when he saw the boulder blocking the road. He looked around, noticing the absence of the wealthy merchants and lords who had passed before him. Unlike them, he didn't have the luxury to avoid the problem; he needed to get his produce to the market to feed his family.

With a determined expression, the farmer set down his heavy basket. He approached the enormous stone and assessed the situation. The boulder was big and cumbersome, but he was determined not to let it hinder him. With a deep breath, he began to push against the cold, rough surface of the stone. He strained and grunted, his muscles straining against the weight of the rock.

Time passed as the farmer worked tirelessly, and beads of sweat dripped down his brow. He paused for a moment to rest, feeling the weight of the task ahead. But he quickly reminded himself why he was doing this: for his family, for the community, and for the chance to show that one person could make a difference. Renewed with determination, he returned to the boulder, pushing with all his might.

Finally, after what felt like hours of effort, the boulder began to budge. With one last great effort, he pushed the stone aside, creating a clear path for travelers. Breathing heavily, he stood and wiped his brow, feeling a sense of triumph wash over him. He had faced an obstacle and overcome it through sheer will and hard work.

As the farmer turned to retrieve his basket of vegetables, something caught his eye on the ground where the boulder had been. It was a leather handbag, partially hidden in the dirt. Curiosity piqued, he bent down to inspect it. Inside, he found gleaming gold coins and a note from the king. The note explained that the treasure was meant for the person who had removed the stone from the road, as a reward for their bravery and initiative.

The farmer's eyes widened in disbelief. He had not only cleared the path for others but had also been rewarded for his actions. With a sense of pride swelling in his chest, he realized the true lesson of the day: it wasn't about wealth or social status; it was about taking responsibility and having the courage to act.

Filled with gratitude, the farmer took the gold coins and made his way back home. When he arrived, he shared the story of his efforts with his family and neighbors, inspiring them to take action in their own lives. The king, still observing from a distance, smiled to himself, knowing that he had found the kind of leader his kingdom deserved.

And so, the tale of the boulder became a legend, encouraging generations to come to face obstacles with bravery and to understand that true value lies not in riches, but in the willingness to work hard and help others. From that day forth, the roads in the kingdom were not only cleared of stones but also filled with the spirit of community and cooperation.
