The young man said, "It’s better that you don’t do such a thing. I won't let you eat me so easily. If you want food, I have enough to satisfy you." The giant replied, "If you’re telling the truth, then don’t worry. Since I had nothing to eat, I thought of eating you." Then, they both sat down at the table. The young man placed the bread, meat, and jug on the table, and the giant exclaimed, "Oh, what wonderful food!" He ate so much that he became full. Then the young man asked him, "Can you tell me where the Golden Castle of Stromberg is?" The giant replied, "Let me look at the map; all the villages, towns, and houses are marked on it." He then went to his room and examined the map, but there was no mention of such a castle. He told the young man, "It doesn't matter. I have larger maps on the upper shelves. Let's go look at them." But this effort also proved fruitless.

Thus, the young man decided to continue on his journey. The giant begged him to stay a few more days until his brother, who had gone to gather food, returned. When the brother came home, both the giant and the young man asked him about the Golden Castle of Stromberg. He replied, "After I eat and get completely full, I will look at the map." Then, they all went to his room on the upper floor and searched his map, but they found no trace of the castle. Nevertheless, they wouldn’t give up and sifted through all the old maps until they finally found the location of the Golden Castle of Stromberg, but it was thousands of miles away.

The young man asked, "How can I get there?" The giant said, "I have two hours of free time; I'll take you close to it, and then I’ll return home to feed our child." So the giant carried the young man several hundred miles to the vicinity of the castle and said, "You can go the rest of the way by yourself." Then, he turned back.

The young man traveled day and night until he finally found the Golden Castle of Stromberg. However, the castle was built atop a mountain made entirely of crystal. From a distance, the young man saw the princess riding in her carriage, circling around the castle before entering and disappearing from view. The young man was delighted to see her and wanted to climb the mountain, but no matter how hard he tried, he kept slipping on the crystal and falling back down. When he realized he would never reach her, he became saddened and said to himself, "I will stay here and wait for her." He then built a hut and lived there for a year. Each day, he saw the princess pass by in her carriage, but he could never reach her.
