The value of work

The First World War had taken the whole world like a terrible disease.  As soon as one of the soldiers saw his lifelong friend lying in the swamp and struggling with death, he asked his superiors for permission to go rescue his friend and get him out of the swamp.

 The superior said to the soldier: “You can go if you want, but have you ever thought that it is worth it?”

 Your friend is probably dead and you may even risk your life

 The superior's words had no effect and…

 The soldier went to save his friend.  Miraculously, he was able to reach his friend, pulled him on his shoulders and brought him to the barracks

 The superior officer went to them, examined the soldier who had fallen in the swamp and looked at his friend with kindness and compassion and said: I told you it might not be worth it, your friend is dead!  You yourself received deep and deadly wounds

 The soldier replied: “Sir, it was worth it.”

 What do you mean it was worth it!?  can you say

 "Yes, sir," replied the soldier, “it was worth it, for he was still alive when I reached him. I feel heartily satisfied to hear what he said.”

 He said, "Jim... I knew you would come to my aid
