Once, a wise teacher asked his students a thought-provoking question: "What makes a person beautiful in your opinion?" The students eagerly shared their thoughts, each offering different answers. One student remarked, "It's the striking beauty of the eyes." Another chimed in, saying, "A tall stature gives a person presence." Yet another mentioned, “A clear and fair complexion is what truly stands out.”
Observing the differing answers, the teacher decided to make a point. He placed two bowls on a table in front of the students. The first bowl was intricate, crafted from gold, sparkling under the light, but inside it contained a foul poison. The second bowl, however, was simple and plain, made of clay, yet it was filled with clean, refreshing water.
He asked the students, "Which bowl would you choose to drink from?" Without hesitation, they all exclaimed in unison, “We would choose the clay bowl!”
The teacher smiled at their response and said, "You see, when you considered the truth inside each bowl, their outward appearances became insignificant to you. Just like these bowls, a human being's true beauty lies within. It isn't the external features that make a person beautiful; rather, it is their character, values, and the goodness that resides in their hearts.
This serves as a reminder that we should focus on beautifying our inner selves rather than obsessing over our outer appearances. Cultivating kindness, honesty, and compassion will make us truly beautiful in the eyes of others, just like the refreshing waters in the simple clay bowl."
The students nodded, absorbing the lesson imparted by their teacher, realizing that true beauty is found not in superficial attributes, but in the goodness we nurture within ourselves. From that day on, they committed to enhancing their inner qualities, knowing that it was these that would ultimately define their beauty.
