What is a schema?
Schemas are the primary psychological and behavioral patterns that people acquire during the early years of their lives and as a result of interacting with their environment and people close to them. Schemas usually determine the way people behave and how they face problems and events in their lives.
Everyone deserves better conditions in their lives and should have good facilities. The right to a normal life and the enjoyment of appropriate rights for each person creates a good feeling in people. But when this feeling of entitlement to better rights is considered a permanent right; and people consider themselves deserving of better conditions than others, they are likely to have an entitlement schema. People with an entitlement schema believe that they are superior to others and may have an exaggerated feeling about their abilities and entitlement. People in an entitlement schema always want the best for themselves and do not pay any attention to others.
?
Entitlement schema is one of 18 maladaptive schemas identified by Jeffrey Young. The entitlement trap causes people to see themselves as special and superior to others. People with the grand secretary schema unhealthyly think that they are special. People with the entitlement schema believe that they are much better than other people and feel that they should have special rights and privileges. People with the grand secretary trap are indifferent to the needs and desires of others and consider themselves entitled to dominate in relationships. People with the grand secretary schema tend to control people in everyday relationships. The entitlement or grand secretary schema causes people with this schema to have very poor empathy.
People with the entitlement schema can be very domineering and controlling in interpersonal relationships. Other behaviors of people with the entitlement schema include: intense competitiveness, selfish behavior, ignoring rules, and imposing their opinions on others. People with the grand secretary schema can sometimes be very charismatic and in this way influence controllable and dependent people.
